Permeable Barrier Superstructure

SMZ Permeable Barrier Superstructure

The barrier is comprised of three modules. One module will experience in-barrier regeneration of the SMZ for chromate. Another module will undergo air-sparging of the SMZ to regenerate the surface with respect to PCE partitioning. The last module will act as a control on all in-barrier regenerative techniques.

The barrier is made entirely of steel and has been painted yellow with a rustproofing type paint. The skeletal structure of the frame is made of 4 inch square steel channel and the surface is wrapped with a coarse mesh, steel screen. The skeletal structure is seen in the above image as the "ribs" of the barrier.

The system is designed to be an analogue to a trench or a barrier that is "hanging" in a phreatic aquifer with shallow groundwater contamination.

The individual barrier modules are easily defined in this image. The vertical walls between each module are 1/4 inch steel sheeting.
